The Big Read Now Accepting Applications
Deadline February 3, 2009 The Big Read is accepting applications from non-profit organizations to conduct month-long, community-wide reads between September 2009 and June 2010. Organizations selected to participate in The Big Read will receive a grant ranging from $2,500 to $20,000.
AgStar Grants Available to Enhance Rural Quality of Life
Applications due by November 30, 2008. The AgStar Fund for Rural America, a corporate-giving program of AgStar Financial Services, is proud to announce they are accepting grant applications to support farmers and rural residents. Up to $10,000 is available per organization in one of AgStar’s four focus areas: Education, Environment, Technology or Quality of Life.
McKnight Honors 45 Artists Selected for Artist Fellowships and Residencies
The McKnight Foundation honored 45 artists and ensembles selected for 2008-2009 McKnight artist fellowships and residencies at a private reception in August.
Marcus Young, a multidisciplinary conceptual artist, worked with Shen Pei, Mary Ellen Childs, and Cody Anderson to produce Wishes for the Sky, a large-scale, nature-oriented public arts event, as part St. Paul, Minnesota, on Earth Day.
Sponsored by Forecast Public Art, the project involved flying 1,000 kites, symbolizing 1,000 sets of wishes. It served to remind people “of the interdependence of life within ecological and social systems, of the connection between a hopeful mind and a clean earth, and ultimately of harmony and peace for our world.”
